Oh... I didn't know you were with Endeavor when you got the message. [Somehow, he'd always thought they might've been busy dealing with the Noumus when he sent the SOS. It makes him feel oddly warm, that Shouto had responded so quickly, brushing his father off in the process. And this was before they had really talked, too.]
Yeah, I saw it. It must be the town acting up again. [The faint sense of curiosity dulls as Izuku realizes what this could mean for them. He frowns slightly.] I'm not sure if I like people seeing random memories from us, if that's what this is.
[He takes one look at Minato as the silence drags on before making up his mind.]
Okay...let's go. [It's pure luck that makes Izuku snag Minato's sleeve rather than grab his hand to tug him along. There's obviously something wrong with the picture, and while he is sorry Minato hadn't had a choice in having his memory thrown out there like that, Izuku isn't just going to let the awkward silence grow between them either.
At least they're already near his cottage, and it's not a long walk at all.]
[He was in the Endeavor hero offices. Because despite all of the bad feelings he has towards the man... it's an opportunity that he could seize. A way to learn about a top hero, even if he's a terrible person.
Dunno... I knew you were there with Endeavor, but I thought you guys might've been caught up with the Noumus. The heroes around Hosu were having some trouble dealing with them.
[Izuku shifts, tugging Shouto closer to him. That's what he had worried about, too.]
There has to be a way to avoid it... Do you remember if you did anything before the memory started?
[... Oh. Okay. Minato follows obediently, expression a little downcast despite himself. These sorts of things... he would have been happiest if they were never brought to light, and if he could have lived his life here without this hanging over his head. But...
[For the short walk back, Izuku lets Minato keep his silence, knowing it would be better to coax anything out of him when they're somewhere more private. Besides, there's a lot that he wants to mull over, too, while they're both lost in their thoughts.
Izuku heads straight for the kitchen once they're inside, gently pulling Minato along with him.]
I'm gonna make us some hot chocolate. [Izuku tells him while steering him toward one of the chairs. A small smile flits across his lips.] It's fitting that I'm gonna use up the last of it with you. We shared our bad memories with each other to get it, remember?
[Izuku grabs two mugs from the cupboards and sets the kettle near the fireplace to heat. While they're waiting for the water, Izuku leans against the counter and watches Minato for a moment.]
We haven't had the town pull something like this for a while--apart from the forest, of course. [Izuku muses softly, not really pressuring Minato into talking. Yet.] It reminds me of that first month we were here, when the furniture and everything talked.
[The town had revealed things that weren't meant to be then, too.]
No... and there wasn't a quest posted for this either.
[It's something that's been on his mind, since the sirens. But that's not what they're here to talk about, so he lets that one go for now. There's a pause before he finally asks--]
Are you okay? [Though he doesn't have context for the memory, Izuku has a feeling that it was something fairly serious. As he checks the kettle and makes the hot cocoa once the water's hot enough, he glances over at Minato, gauging his expression, too.]
[ ahah... "really cool" is a good thing, so she'll... offer a friendly, somewhat relieved smile at that. not that she expected him to reject her or anything based on that, given what she's seen of him.
... still. every one person she tells is another person she's a little more natural around. as natural as a robot can be, anyway. warmly: ]
And the same to you.
[ though ideally they wouldn't have to fight at all, but they all knew what they expected coming out here. ]
Now, let's move on, Izuku-san. I... suppose I can say this now that you know what I am... [ she glances at him, a bit of light tone in her voice. ] I don't detect anything abnormal just yet.
[The more she reveals about her abilities, the more Izuku wants to ask. If only he hadn't left his notebook back at the cottage! Thankfully, he has a good memory--he can just write all of this down later.]
That's such a useful skill to have. I bet it's really hard for anyone to sneak up on you. [Then, his voice drops to a mumble.] It'd be extremely useful for any hero doing fieldwork, too, in case of ambush. Not to mention, dealing with villains who'd have quirks that mess around with sight, like invisibility and illusions, or even villains who have speed quirks. Then again, it depends if the detection ability could pinpoint someone in particular or if it's a based on a radius of some kind...
Ah! [Oops, he went off on a tangent again. Sheepishly, he turns his attention back to Aigis.] What kind of things are you able to sense? You said anything "abnormal", but what would that mean?
[Especially when "normal" is a bit skewed here, when all the fauna around are mutated in some way.]
[ ... woah, izuku. honestly, the feeling is mutual... because those abilities he's listing are certainly out of the norm, and the way he thinks so thoroughly about the applications of her own ability is a side of him that she hasn't seen yet.
of course, she hasn't known him for long... but he is interesting. ]
My sensory abilities aren't my specialty, and my Persona abilities don't supplement them... so they're limited to what I was originally designed with.
[ so if he's looking for anime powers to fight the anime, aigis is not as good a fit as fuuka. however-- ]
I do have surface body temperature scanners, along with some recognition functions. "Abnormal" refers to anything I could perceive as a possible threat, which is... nothing, at the moment.
[ given she was designed with primarily shadow combat in mind, so her systems may be a bit biased in that regard... ]
It's probably new. We'll figure it out. [There's not enough information to go on, to make any guesses just yet.
For now, Izuku smiles up at him, oddly tentative.] You didn't even question it when you got my message. [Shouto had been worried about him even back then. And he'd called him his friend, too.]
[Logically, Izuku guesses that whatever Minato's alluding to is the cause of that rush of emotion he had felt at the tail end of the memory. The way the girl and Minato had been talking, there's obviously something going on that he's missing. But Izuku can't figure out what it could be.
There's a growing unease in his chest. What could have affected Minato like this? ]
That's good enough. [Izuku gestures up at the trees now, where Aigis would be able to see a few birds, each with a mutation of some kind--extra wings, extra heads, and so on.] Most of the animals here are mutated anyway. If you sense anything that's bigger or anything that's headed right for us, give me a warning.
[He isn't sure if mythical creatures would register differently on her sensors yet, so that's all they have to go on for now.]
So...what do you think of Chroma so far?
[It's said quietly, so they can still keep an ear out for trouble, but Izuku figures if they're going to be walking for a while, he might as well make small talk.]
[You're worrying him, Minato! But all the same, Izuku nods, wondering if Minato's looking for some kind of confirmation from him.]
I believe you, Arisato-kun. You're kind and thoughtful...whatever happened, I'm sure you would have considered as many factors as you could before you decided.
