Mm they caught us by surprise when we were underwater. We must have accidentally intruded on their territory or something.

[Bit by bit, Izuku relaxes, then turns his face into Shouto's neck with a sigh.]

They must've sent us back up to the shore after we finished doing what they wanted. I was hoping I could ask them a few questions... they didn't talk much, though--or, actually they didn't talk at all.

[He sounds a bit guilty now. If they'd at least gotten something out of the not!mermaids, it would've at least made up for disappearing like this a little.]

[glaciers]

[He lets Izuku cuddle up with him. It was something he missed when he was away for so long.]

The next time you want to do something reckless, bring me with you.

Okay... I will. [Izuku sighs again, the puff of air ghosting along Shouto's neck.]

I've kept my promise so far, though--I've stayed safe. [For the most part...]

[glaciers]

[Shouto snorts immediately.]

Only mostly. Try a little harder.

Mostly is better than nothing! [He settles back down, the slightest pout on his lips.]

I'll try harder, though. And I'll bring you next time.

[glaciers]

It is.

[He kisses the top of Izuku's head.]

I'm always here if you want to do something dangerous.

[inheritance]

You make it sound like I go looking for trouble.

[He doesn't! Not exactly... But he'll turn slightly in Shouto's arms, looking apologetic lately anyway.]

I've been making you worry a lot lately, haven't I?

[glaciers]

You make everybody worry a lot.

[Blunt.]

[inheritance]

I know... [Shouto's not wrong!!]

What can I do to make it up to you?

[glaciers]

[He's not wrong, he's just bad at pulling his verbal punches.]

... Stay home today. Just... be with me.

[inheritance]

I can do that.

[Izuku curls his arms around Shouto, closing his eyes as he rests their heads together.]

[glaciers]

[He nuzzles against him and draws him close.]

It's good to have you home.

[inheritance]

It's good to be home.

[Shyly, he pecks Shouto's cheek, juuuuuust missing the corner of Shouto's lips--so close.]

[glaciers]

[Shouto's cheeks definitely have a light dusting of pink, but he'll ignore that for a moment.]

I'm glad you didn't get hurt. I can't help you if I'm not there.

[inheritance]

Next time. [He promises again, even as Shouto's words send a rush of warmth through him.

Sometimes it's overwhelming, knowing that Shouto always has his back like this. It reminds him that he's not walking the path alone anymore.]
