My place! Since all the gardens are in this area of the town anyway.]

[Whenever Todoroki gets to Izuku's cottage, he's already waiting outside, hands tucked into his pockets. There's a fishing rod and a bucket lying on the ground beside him.

Izuku visibly brightens up when he looks up and sees him.] Todoroki-kun!

[glaciers]

Midoriya.

[There's a tiny smile on Shouto's face. There's a fishing rod over his left shoulder and a small bucket in his other hand.]

Ready to dig for bait?

[inheritance]

Yeah. [Izuku picks up his own fishing rod and bucket quickly.]

Let's go. [Thankfully there are gardens dotted all around this particular part of the town, and it doesn't take much effort to locate one. Though this one's still overrun with weeds, Izuku starts poking around in the dirt anyway.]

[glaciers]

[He squats down next to Midoriya and prods at the dirt.]

So basically we're looking for movement, right?

[inheritance]

Hmmm. We could probably sift the soil around until we find something, too

[Izuku reaches into the bucket and pulls out a trowel with a grin. He came prepared!]

[glaciers]

[Shouto just makes a small icicle and starts prodding the soil.]

Then let's do this.

[He'll start poking at the ground.]

[inheritance]

[Izuku's content to just work quietly, only occasionally making a sound of triumph every time he manages to find something that they could use as bait.

The near-silence is a comfortable one.]

[glaciers]

[It's a good twenty minutes later before Shouto is satisfied with the amount of worms he's managed.]

Did you get enough?

[inheritance]

I think so! [He checks his bucket, and then peers into Todoroki's.]

Between the two of us, we should have enough to at least catch something. Oh, I heard there's some fish who have their color back, too. If we catch enough of those, we can cook some for ourselves.

[glaciers]

[It would be nice if he could eat a normal tasting fish. He misses that]

Really? I didn't hear anything about that. What kind of fish have color back?

[inheritance]

Umm Okumura-kun said something about cod?

It should be easy to tell the difference between the normal fish and gray fish, even if we don't know what kind it is, at least.

[glaciers]

Aren't there gray colored fish normally?

[inheritance]

There are, but they might look...different? I mean the things that are gray here look kind of dull, like their actual essence has been stolen away, not just the color. So there's gray, and then there's gray. Even if the fish we catch are gray, I think we'll be able to tell if it's got its color back or not...?

Ah. [Izuku straightens up, grinning.] I got a little carried away.

[glaciers]

[That was more thought than he ever put into fish before.]

... It's fine. I don't mind listening to you talk about things.

[inheritance]

[It's way more thought than anyone should ever put into fish, and yet here Izuku is, rambling away.]

There's not much else to say... but I guess we'll see how easy it is to tell these things apart when we've actually caught some!

[Off to the Bluo district they go!]

Now that you say that, I can't think of anything. [He's teasing.]

I guess I'm just thinking about how we have to work extra hard for things to eat now. We've never had to fish or hunt anything ourselves back home. Even during camp, they had the ingredients all set up already, we just had to cook them.

[glaciers]

I thought you were always thinking about heroes. [Teasing right back.]

Mm... It's a lot different foraging and fishing ourselves. I'm not sure the food tastes better like this, but it's good to have anything with taste.

[inheritance]

[Izuku's eyes light up with delight. Did Todoroki just...?] It's true, you caught me. I'm always thinking about heroes. All the time. 24/7. [It's honestly not that far off the truth, even if he's just joking.]

You said it. I think everyone's just relieved not to be eating ashy food anymore. There's not a lot of options still, but I think the more we stick around, the more color will come back.

[glaciers]

I knew it. [He's absolutely teasing his best friend.]

Having anything with taste is better than jars of fruit tasting like ash.
