[Shiho had talked to her at length about this plan and Kaoru can't say she liked it in the least. But she had to respect Shiho's choices and it wasn't as if she was going alone...but still--

She was worried. About everyone (though she'd be lying if she said her worry for Shiho wasn't stronger than for the others. She can't help it after having been friends for so long...) But she didn't want to burden anyone with her childish tantrum. So she does what she always does when she wants to act mature: she does what she thinks Minamoto would.]

remember to bring comfortable shoes. go to the washroom before you leave. are you guys bringing lunch? don't bring anything that needs a microwave.

and don't let shiho do anything stupid. she likes to pretend she's the cool and cute one but she's more impulsive than anyone expects.

[At first, Kaoru's message only confuses him, with it seemingly coming out of nowhere. What could she be talking about? And then it hits him. Shiho. The trip they're making into the forest for the pendant. Suddenly, it all makes a lot more sense. Of course Kaoru would be worried for her friend, close as the two of them are.]

Don't worry, we'll pack food that's easy to carry around and eat.

I'll look out for her, too. Akashi-san. I won't let anything happen to her.

[Reassuring her is all he can do right now. And Izuku has no intention of letting the others get hurt if he can help it.]

[She didn't doubt he would have done it even if she hadn't asked because he seemed like that sort of person. But it was reassuring to actually have it said...well, written.]

and look out for yourself too! you're both my friends! so make sure you both come back safely or i won't let you hear the end of it!

[Friends...though Izuku doesn't want Kaoru to be worried, it is always nice (and reassuring) to hear that the friendship is reciprocated.]

You're really worried about her, aren't you? Is this the first time she's really gone into the forest?

[Though Shiho had replied to his forum post, Izuku remembers that she hadn't signed up for the actual group trip, while Kaoru had.]

[Was she that transparent...? Or was he just observant? Either way, she's just a little bit embarrassed that she was seen through this easily.]

even if this is her first time going in there it's not going to a problem, you know. shiho is more suited to these types of things than i am.

so there's really no reason for me to worry. i should stop being so childish and trust that she knows what she's doing.

[She doesn't want to say that she just wants to be there to watch Shiho's back...now she wonders how Shiho had managed when Kaoru had gone into the forest and asked her friend to stay in town in case anything happened. But then, she hadn't realized the communication function on their Limiters would be blocked.]

Really? Even with your psychic powers?

[While Izuku's aware that Shiho has powers of her own, he'd sort of assumed that most of it involved reading the items and creatures she touched, like she's been doing to help him.]

I think that's normal, though. Even if you know someone's perfectly capable of protecting themselves, you can't help but worry because you care about them.

you shouldn't underestimate shiho. i have a lot of raw power but shiho's smart and she's good at thinking on her feet.

besides, in these situations having someone who can figure out something's weakness is useful, isn't it?

[Besides, just because psychometry isn't naturally an offensive ability it could still be terrifying when used properly.]

i guess so...still, i should try to see her off with a smile, right?

Trust me, I'm definitely not underestimating her.

I think it would help if you could do that. She might be worried, too, you know? If you can show that you have confidence in her abilities, that would be the best way to send her off. I don't think she'd want you to worry either.
